Options A and B misunderstand governance: internal audit doesn’t “approve schedules” as a prerequisite, and the BC professional does not implement everything alone. Option D can undermine control; changes should be managed through governance/change control, not ad-hoc adjustment.

The CBCI 7.0 course clarifies that audits assess the design, implementation, and effectiveness of Business Continuity processes and controls to assure stakeholders that the system functions as intended. The audit does not specifically test operational readiness or management performance but focuses on conformance and control integrity, enabling informed decision-making about system improvements.

The CBCI 7.0 course defines embracing Business Continuity as a cultural commitment by personnel who recognize the importance of Business Continuity in protecting organizational interests. It goes beyond policy mandates or role compliance and reflects genuine belief and ownership. Embracing Business Continuity is integrated with the broader organizational culture rather than existing separately. This deep commitment improves resilience and the effectiveness of continuity efforts at all levels.

GPG 7.0 positions Embracing Business Continuity (PP2) as intentionally improving BC culture by embedding BC into the organization—moving away from compliance enforcement and toward genuine understanding, ownership, and engagement. The opening minutes of workshops are a powerful culture tool: they set context (“why this matters”), connect continuity to the organization’s purpose, customers, obligations, and staff wellbeing, and reinforce that BC protects value and reduces harm. That is exactly option B.

Using the opening to allocate new responsibilities (A) can trigger resistance and anxiety, especially before establishing meaning and benefits. Option C risks becoming performative; culture is strengthened by shared purpose and participation, not by showcasing leadership success. Option D is not the purpose of the opening minutes; re-designing procedures belongs to technical workstreams, whereas workshops/presentations start best by aligning participants to the mission, priorities, and practical value of BC. This approach supports consistent messaging and helps build the shared mindset that PP2 aims for—so B is the best answer.

The RTO represents the maximum acceptable time to restore activities following disruption, and it must always be shorter than the Maximum Tolerable Period of Disruption (MTPD), which is the absolute limit before unacceptable impacts occur. The CBCI 7.0 course explains that this ensures recovery efforts occur within tolerable timeframes, preventing critical losses. The RPO concerns data restoration points and is not a time period comparison. The MBCO relates to minimum acceptable outputs and is not a time-based measure.

The CBCI 7.0 course advises that before conducting a BIA, the Business Continuity professional should review organizational documents such as strategic plans, operational procedures, and risk registers to understand the context and determine appropriate parameters like impact categories and assessment criteria. This preparation ensures that the BIA is aligned with organizational objectives and risks, enhancing the accuracy and relevance of findings. While consulting personnel, considering recovery strategies, and communication procedures are important, these typically occur later in the BCMS lifecycle. Proper groundwork through document review is essential for a focused and effective BIA process.

Validation (PP6) confirms whether the BCMS meets objectives set in policy and whether capability works in practice through awareness, exercising, maintenance, and review programmes. Exercise programmes are aimed at improving performance and readiness: they strengthen teamwork and competence (A), provide evidence that recovery performance targets (including RTOs) are achievable (B), and reveal issues such as outdated plan content, role confusion, missing resources, or unclear procedures so improvements can be made (C).

Designing new policies and solutions (D) is not the purpose of exercising. Policies are set within BCMS establishment/governance (PP1), and strategies/solutions are primarily designed in Solutions Design (PP4) and implemented in Enabling Solutions (PP5). Exercises may inform changes to policy or solutions via lessons learned, but “design of additional policies and solutions” is not an aim of the exercise programme itself—it’s a downstream improvement activity that follows from validation findings. Therefore, D is the option that is NOT an exercise-programme aim.
